Landmark Home and Land Company Experience Of Elizabeth and Barbie.
Instead of choosing one of the hundreds of house designs offered by Landmark, we decided to design our own home, and came up with a basic, 28′ x 28′, two story, three-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath, fireplace in the living room design that offers a total of 1717sq ft of space, including the external front porch and rear balcony. Here’s what the first back-of-an-envelope sketch of our idea looked like:
A local architect friend translated Elizabeth’s 3D Home Architect software design drawings to blueprints for us, but Landmark also offered to do so at low cost.
Here is a photo we took of our home – Harmony House – now complete, taken from halfway up a tree which happened to be near the “virtual” viewpoint of Elizabeth’s “artist’s impression” of the design. You can see that the vision manifested almost perfectly! It was taken after we signed the mortgage on January 22nd, a little over 4 months from the delivery of the framing package and little more than 7 months after we signed the agreement for the construction loan. To say we are delighted would be an understatement! We finished detailing the completion of our home, below, (yay!) but we’re still working on the house. Perhaps it never ends!
To give you an idea of the process – we completed pre-qualification for a construction loan in April 2002 and, after months of work gathering bids and pricing our design, we were accepted for the loan and signed the agreement on June 12th. Due to County plan review delays, we broke ground in St. Augustine, Florida on August 5th. The stem walls and concrete slab for the foundation were ready September 6th. We arranged to have our Landmark framing package delivered at 8AM on Monday, September 16th. We waited with mounting excitement for that special day to arrive. See some cool photos and read about our building adventures in the pages below.
